Residents come to our program from all over the country, contributing to a rich spectrum of cultural, ethnic, educational, and geographic backgrounds within our resident cohort. We embrace diversity in our resident community as a means of integrating a wide array of opinions, perspectives, and experiences into our formal psychiatric training. Residents are encouraged to explore their unique identities as they develop into culturally-competent psychiatrists.
Residents benefit from a wide array of clinical experiences with a diverse patient population. Residents have the opportunity to work with underserved and minority patients through the County of Los Angeles health system, Department of Mental Health, and Department of Veterans Affairs. Residents also rotate at the UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital and California State University, Northridge. These venues provide residents with ample exposure to patients of all ages from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
