All housestaff are paid by UCLA and are bound by conditions of employment at UCLA Medical Center. UCLA also provides health, disability, malpractice and liability insurance for housestaff.

Housestaff have student status at UCLA and benefit from certain discounts and campus facilities. 

Vacation and educational leave total four weeks a year.  

An additional two weeks of sick leave are also provided.
