Fellowships


There are currently 5 fellowships offered through the UCLA - San Fernando Valley Program.  The coordinator for each fellowship is listed below that fellowship.

1.  Forensic Fellowship

This is a combined UCLA forensic fellowship supported by all the training programs within the UCLA umbrella. It includes didactic and experiential elements at both the Los Angeles and Atascadero sites. The candidate may spend six months at each site, concentrating on civil forensics in LA and on criminal forensics at Atascadero. Instruction will also cover legal aspects of the practice of psychiatry, child and adolescent law, adult law, landmark cases, and practical experience with the courts, all under close supervision by forensically certified psychiatrists and legal experts. 2.  Geriatric Fellowship

Beginning in 1991, in conjunction with the West Los Angeles campus of the VAGLAHS and UCLA, the Sepulveda campus of the VAGLAHS has sponsored a one year multicampus Fellowship Program in Geriatric Psychiatry. Fellows participate in clinical rotations and receive didactic instruction at all three campuses. Experience in the community and private sector is also available through affiliates. Strong emphasis is placed on development of academic skills including research. Fellows are expected to carry out a research project of their own choosing under the guidance and with the support of appropriate faculty members. 3.  Psychopharmacology Fellowship

This one year fellowship is in conjunction with the UCLA mood disorders clinics. The fellow participates in mood disorders clinics at both the UCLA-NPI and the Sepulveda VA campus of the VAGLAHS. 4.  Consultation & Liason Psychiatry

This one year fellowship is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles County Olive View Medical Center and offers diverse consult and liason training in with both inpatient and outpatient county populations. Faculty from both inpatient and outpatient settings provide a varied and complementary supervisorial experience. Research in the field is encouraged during the fellowship. 5.  Community Psychiatry

This fellowship will train residents in innovative and state-of-the-art treatment approaches to the severely and chronically mentally ill in a community setting. Residents will learn to combine the use of the newer medications with psychiatric rehabilitation techniques including biobehavioral titration which incorporates rating instruments such as the BPRS & AIMS. Didactics will include an overview of the Community Psychiatry movement, along with relevant clinical topics.
