Consultation/Liaison Service

The Consultation/Liaison (C&L) Service rotation forms one of the primary clinical experiences for residents who have completed their inpatient training.  Housestaff are assigned to the C&L Service for a six month period, and consultations are performed at both the VAGLAHS/PACE and Olive View Medical Center.  During the C&L rotation at Olive View, residents are assigned to both chronic and acute medical or surgical wards.  Their responsibilities to the medical and surgical wards include complete assessment, case formulation, treatment recommendations, and follow-up consultations.  In addition, they function as a liaison between the Psychiatry and Medical/Surgical Services, performing such duties as facilitating interstaff communication and providing education for medical and surgical staff.

PACE offers a unique opportunity for the residents to work closely with the medicine & primary care housestaff and faculty in a continuity-of-care setting.

Additional C&L experience is also available through elective rotations on the C&L Service at UCLA/NPI.
